School of Music

      The School of Music was founded in July 2005 on the basis of the Department of Art of Shaanxi Normal University. It presently has 81 faculty and staff members, including 5 full professors and 20 associate professors, in its 4 departments of Music Education, Music Performance, Music Culture and Dance, and 3 research centers for Opera Performing Art, Han and Tang Dynasties Dance, and Shaanxi Folk Music and Dance. It enrolls 827 students in 4 baccalaureate programs and 154 postgraduate students in 4 master’s degree programs in Music, Art, Master of Art and Master of Education, and 1 doctoral program of Cultural History of Art.


      The School hosts a symphony orchestra and a Chinese traditional orchestra. In recent years, the School has made remarkable achievements in teaching and research, successfully holding such major activities as staging a public performance of the opera, “Carmen”, and running the Master Class for Mélodies (French Art Songs). Its teachers and students of the School have won numerous awards in national, provincial and municipal music competitions.


      The School is also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, such as a first-class music hall, Steinway pianos, recording studios and MIDI studios, providing ample space for its further growth.
