President You meets with Turkish political counselor

On October 15, Shaanxi Normal University president You Xuqun met with Mr. Teoman Uykur, political counselor of Turkish embassy in China and Mr. Zhou Rong, senior researcher at the Chongyang Financial Institute of Renmin University of China, at the Administrative Building on the university’s Chang’an campus.

You briefed the guests about SNNU’s discipline construction, characteristic educational programs and One Belt One Road Imitative-related works. You said SNNU had much strength in OBOR-related research and the OBOR Initiative provided new historical opportunity for SNNU’s international exchange; its Center for Turkish Studies was a Ministry of Education country-specific research center and it published the first Turkish Studies journal in China, laying foundation for academic exchange between SNNU and Turkish counterparts. He hoped Mr. Uykur would help facilitate educational exchange and cooperation between SNNU and Turkey, promoting deeper cooperation in faculty and student exchange and academic research.

SNNU vice president Feng Xudong attended the meeting and said he hoped the two parties would work together to implement exchange programs.

Mr. Uykur said Turkey wanted to have full-scale cooperation with China in areas like education, science and culture, and he was willing to help facilitate cooperation between Turkish universities and SNNU in multiple areas, as SNNU had distinct advantages in humanities and social sciences. He also hoped the institution’s Center for Turkish Studies would play a bigger role in the humanistic and cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries, on the basis of its current achievements.

School of History and Civilization dean He Zhilong, CPC SHC Committee Du Haibin, vice dean and Center for Turkish Studies director Li Bingzhong, and International Programs Office vice director Guan Haiqiang attended the meeting.
