## Undergrad Xiao Shengpeng wins first prize in national math contest

On March 31, Shaanxi Normal University undergraduate student Xiao Shengpeng won the national first prize in mathematics major (Senior Group) in the tenth National College Student Mathematics Contest, held in Harbin Institute of Technology in the northeastern city of Harbin.

Xiao, a Class ‘20 student with SNNU’s School of Mathematics and Information Science, is the only first prize winner from Shaanxi province contestants, among 26 first prize winners nationwide.

Xiao said after winning the prize that “Math is beautiful. Solving difficult math problem is wonderful.”

SMIS’s Thirty six students participated in the Shaanxi province preliminary and won nine first prizes, eleven second prizes and 16 third prizes.

Organized by Chinese Mathematical Society and first held in 2009, the National College Student Mathematics Contest is aimed at undergraduate students in China. Approximately 670,000 students have participated over the years, and 138832 contestants from 784 institutions entered into this year’s contest.
