About the Lecture:Lu Guoyao, born in 1937 in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, is a well-known linguist in contemporary China. In 1960, he graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University. In 1964, he graduated from the Chinese History Department of Peking University. He is retired Professor of Nanjing University and Consultant of Chinese Academy of Phonology. He is currently employed as a consultant and special researcher of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Shaanxi Normal University. Professor Lu Guoyao has a wide range of academic research fields. His works cover phonology, dialect, lexical dictionary, grammar, writing, history of common language, history of linguistics and many other aspects. The main works areAn Outline of Phonology,A Review of Luzongmaiqie's Rhyme Law,The Puzzle of Yan Zhitui and its Semi-interpretation. His were awarded the Wang Li Linguist Award of Peking University twice, the first prize for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences of Jiangsu Province, and the special allowance of the State Council in 1992. Professor Lu is one of the most successful phonologists in mainland phonology circles after Wang Li and Zhou Zumo. He is also one of the most innovative scholars in Chinese linguistic circles.
