Writing free spring festival couplets for faculty and students
In the morning of January 22, more than a dozen calligraphers wrote spring festival couplets as free gifts for Shaanxi Normal University faculty, staff and students in the gymnasium on the university's Yanta campus.
The writing was co-organized by SNNU's Institute of Calligraphic Culture and the Worker's Union and supported by Shaanxi Artists Association and Shaanxi Young Calligraphers Association.
Chinese Calligraphers Association director and SYCA chairman Zhang Hongchun, SAA Organization and Liaison Division chief He Hulin and other 13 young calligraphers participated in the activity.
SNNU CPC Committee secretary and ICC honorary director Gan Hui, vice president and ICC consultant Dang Huaixing, ICC director Li Jikai, standing vice director Jiang jinshi, vice director Xu Bu, secretary-general Li Weidong, Prof. Wang Hui, calligrapher Wei Mo, Worker's Union chair Du Yeting, Administrative Office director Ma Xiaoyun, and amateur calligraphers Wen Zhanshen, Yang Mingtang attended the event.
The calligraphers wrote about 1000 characters and couplets with auspicious meanings suggesting happiness, health, longevity, wealth, stability on red papers, which were distributed to some faculty and staff members and students as free Chinese new year gifts.
With black or golden characters written on red paper, Spring Festival Couplets are composed of a pair of poetry lines vertically pasted on both sides of the front door and a four-character horizontal scroll affixed above the doorframe. Pasting couplets expresses people’s delight in the festival and wishes for a better life in the coming year.
